Someone’s Desktop Has Transparent Sticky Notes — How Do They Do That?

You were working at someone’s desk and noticed something unusual. Their sticky notes weren’t on paper or in an app window — they were floating directly on their desktop wallpaper. Transparent, always visible, never falling off. No paper clutter, no windows to manage, just a clean wallpaper with notes floating on top.

Now you want the same thing on your computer. You’re not alone — once people see these “invisible” desktop sticky notes, they always ask how to get them.

The secret is YYNote, a desktop widget app that displays sticky notes (and todo lists, calendars, and weather) as transparent overlays on your wallpaper. This guide shows you exactly how to get that same transparent sticky note widget on your desktop.

Why Transparent Desktop Notes Beat Paper and Notepad

Paper sticky notes have a physical problem. They fall off monitors. They get knocked off desks. They fade in sunlight. And when you close your laptop, they’re trapped inside — invisible until you open the laptop again.

System notepad has a visibility problem. You have to keep the window open. Close it and your notes disappear. Open a fullscreen browser and your digital notes are hidden just like paper ones were.

YYNote’s transparent widget solves both problems permanently. Your sticky notes float above your wallpaper, not behind your windows. Fullscreen apps, multiple monitors, Alt+Tabbing — none of it hides your notes. They stay on your wallpaper, visible but not intrusive.

Archive without deleting means you can keep important notes for reference without cluttering your active view. Everything stays organized and searchable.

Auto-tagging automatically categorizes your notes so you don’t have to manually sort through them later. Find any note in seconds, even after months.

Full sync across devices keeps your notes lightweight and accessible on Windows, Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS. Write a note on your phone and see it on your desktop moments later.

Three Steps to Display Sticky Notes on Your Desktop

Step 1: Download and install YYNote

Visit the official website and download the Windows client. Run the installer and follow the prompts. Launch the application and create an account using your phone number. Your data syncs automatically to the cloud.

Step 2: Configure Desktop Widget Quantity

Right-click the YYNote tray icon in your system tray. Select “App Settings.” Find the “Desktop Widget Quantity” option and set it to 1 or higher. This tells YYNote how many desktop widgets to display.

Step 3: Switch to Sticky Notes

Look for the widget on your desktop. Click the module switcher (usually in the top-left corner of the widget) and select “Sticky Notes.” Your sticky note list now appears transparently on your wallpaper. Double-click the desktop to add new notes directly.
